There is a split-haired chasm between God and man. Our Father which art in heaven is just another celebrity we idolize from the distance of a movie screen. We go home excited about the notion that there is more to life. But the Passion of Christ lasts as long as it takes us to realize that we will never be like Him. We wanted to be like Christ long before we settled for trying to be like our favorite movie star. We’ve eaten the apple of commercialized Christianity and taken home the fast food dream that old things have passed away and behold all things have become new. Our “Be like Jesus” theology leaves us just as empty as those dead-end diets and celebrity makeovers that promise to make us who we’ve always wanted to be.
